(Or, how to stop John's inner Monica from exploding)
Or, Why can't I just make a page called 'Bob' for my character Bob?
At my last count there were links to character to over a dozen campaigns on this wiki, thus far, very few of them have had the same name. However, what happens if in my Shadowrun game, you make Bob the Samurai, and in someone else's game, someone else makes Bob the swordsman. Obviously you can't both use ((Bob)) for a page, so the obvious thing to do is to tag the page with the game 'Bob' belongs too.
Initially, my idea was to have all the game tags in front of the character name, but that fell by the wayside very quickly, and even I don't bother with that one. The reasoning being that when you searched the index, you could quickly find characters in the same campaign by the prefix. That ship has sailed however, and it's just as easy to link all the characters on the front page of the main campaign section.
At this point I just want consistency, all the character's in a given campaign tagged the same, and all the pages for that campaign tagged intuitively. If someone has already made a character in your campaign, look to see how they tagged it and follow their convention, if you are the first, use something intuitive and easy to figure out at a glance. The examples below are the most common ways to use tags for page names here on the wiki, try to stay in those guidelines and we'll get along fine. Consistency is key here.
Game system Initials followed by campaign name, ie: SRShadowDawn is Shadowdawn the Shadowrun gamem or DDKrizenIsles / DDKrizenIslesCampaignInfo, etc
Character name can be followed by the campaign initials/ ie: DocSD is for the character Doc, in the Shadowdawn campaign.
Or, for a character than will have several links off their main page, you can be more specific, ScionLSGLouisGhede (Scion – LethaL's Scion Game – LouisGhede) and then tack on the next file name: ScionLSGLouisBirthrights or ScionLSGLouisBio, etc. Remeber you can always give a prettier display name by including the Link Name after a space in the link, ((ScionLSGLouisGhede Louis Ghede)) = Louis Ghede
If you need any images hosted, and don't want to use photobucket or something, feel free to email them to me. Unless otherwise requested I will not do any editing, just email you back the links so you can fit them in yourself.
